Dressing Room No.1  by Sophie Teasdale
Exhibition Available to tour UK

Photographer Sophie Teasdale has been delving into a world that we rarely get to see… backstage in the theatre.
Sophie has spent the best part of a decade behind the scenes, from local North East venues to London’s West End. She has encountered some fascinating characters along the way.

Through her work as a stage manager Sophie has been able to establish strong bonds with the performers she has worked alongside and believes that trust is a paramount ingredient when photographing someone in such a vulnerable setting.

The aim has always been to capture that golden moment somewhere between two realities in a natural and candid way, creating intimate portraits from real moments. Sophie has witnessed the highs and lows as actors prepare to take to the stage; each dressing room comes with its own unique atmosphere, dictated by the attitudes of the actors, and no two photo sessions are the same.

Dressing Room No.1 was first exhibited in County Durham at Bishop Auckland Town Hall Gallery for three months, March to June 2024.

9,209 visitors saw the exhibition, making it the most viewed gallery event Bishop Auckland Town Hall had seen.

You can now view a 3D virtual tour of Dressing Room No.1.

DRESSING ROOM AREA

A mock up dressing room area can be installed in the space, this is where the A4 and A3 framed prints would live.
Sophie can provide props and costumes to fill the area, and a dressing room soundscape played on loop via a CD player which is part of the set.

In the past, the gallery venue has provided the desk, seats, and mirrors with lights. This can be negotiated. The idea is to create an immersive space within the main gallery yet with a contained feeling. Sophie is open to how this is achieved, and happy to discuss options with prospective venues.
Please see the below images to get an idea of what this has looked like previously.
